I’ve been in two minds about whether or not to post press days. Between looming uni deadlines and the pre Christmas rush, I’m a wee bit tight for time at the moment. Then there’s the question of how exciting pictures of rails of clothes can actually ever be. On the other hand, I’ve spent most of the past month careering around town looking at the SS13 collections instead or writing essays so it seems silly not to share my snaps. And let’s face it, whether it’s on the runway or crumpled up in a ball on some lucky so-and-so’s bedroom floor, Alexander McQueen garments are always pretty amazing!
Having interned at McQueen’s Clerkenwell Road HQ a couple of years ago it was slightly strange going back but extremely nice to be there in a non dogsbody capacity. As for the collection itself… Simply breathtaking. My internship at Alexander McQueen fell during the lead up to Sarah Burton’s first show as Creative Director for the house. Obviously this meant things were ever-so-slightly stressful (under statement of the century) but also incredibly exciting as, at that point, no one knew how she could possibly follow on from the man himself. Two years, or rather six seasons, later it’s safe to say that Sarah has done a truly inspired job. She seems to have an innate ability to tap into the McQueen DNA and then put her own oh-so-covetable spin on it, creating collections that are both exquisitely beautiful and commercially successful. Case in point: SS13. The incredible honeycomb esque runway dresses are mesmerizing feats of garment engineering while the bee embellished loafers are cute enough to eat!
Do you like hearing about press days? I don’t want to bombard you with stuff you don’t want to see so please do let me know!
