Firstly I just have to say Pre SS14? Seriously?! SS13 has barely even arrived in London! You would have thought the mega fast paced nature of fashion would have ceased to flabbergast me by now but somehow it has not. Once I’d recovered from the initial shock factor of even thinking about next Spring I had a good gander through the latest Burberry offerings and my brain began boggling all over again.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a die hard Burberry devotee and almost always adore Christopher Bailey’s collections but this, it took my breath away. There’s just something so wonderfully, wearably modern about it. Super sleek silhouettes, semi sheer textures and trench coats re-imagined to the extent where they look like an entirely new garment. I don’t know whether it’s the fact that it’s nearing the dizzy heights of 20 degrees here in Blighty but all of a sudden peek-a-boo broderie anglaise seems like the best idea ever. I think the real genius of these looks lies in the masterful high/low mix. Exquisitely embellished pencil skirts teamed with slouchy, grey marl tees; lazily layered lightweight knits thrown over barely there lace dresses; ice white, sports inspired wedges worn with, well, everything. And then of course there are the pastel hues, lashings of lilac, mint green and blush pink, all shades guaranteed to score top marks from me.
Sequinned skirting and figure clinging frocks offer an air of oh-so-elegant seduction while at the same time the whole thing has a messy haired, tomboy vibe about it that feels so deliciously British. Yes, in case you didn’t realise, Pre SS14 might just be my favourite Burberry collection ever.
Love Ella. X
