In theory the fashion industry shuts down during August, or at least that’s what I’d been led to believe. I don’t know whether it’s the Olympics, the fact fashion week’s coming early this year (thank you Milan!) or simply because I’ve got busier but from where I’m sitting, the past few weeks have been no less manic than usual. Not that I’m complaining of course, few things make me happier than trotting from party to party leaving a trail of emptied champagne glasses, business cards and twitpics in my wake. Last Thursday played host to some extremely stylish soirees, and I know I say this most weeks but frankly, it’s true. First on the party agenda was the launch of the much-anticipated Garance Doré for Kate Spade collection.
As you’ve probably realised by now, I absolutely adore Kate Spade. Their delectable brand of colour-popping preppy chic is so up my street I can’t help but feel that some, ok most, of their pieces were simply made for me. Well add legendary blogger, photographer and illustrator, Garance Doré into the mix and you’ve got yourself a collection that’s good enough to eat. The lovely Starworks PR team were kind enough to schedule me an interview slot with Garance and naturally I leapt at the chance to chat with one of my all time career/life/wardrobe idols. In my over excitement I neglected to read my invitation properly and arrived at Kate Spade’s Chelsea store expecting Mary Charteris on the decks and glamourous guests wall to wall only to discover that the soiree was in fact taking place in Covent Garden. Twenty minutes later I finally made it to the correct location, mildly embarassing, massively stressed and a little bit sweaty from my high speed tube dash. Luckily I still managed to wangle my 5 minutes with Garance (more on this later) who I have to say was utterly lovely. Unsurprisingly, her collection was also exquisite and in between sampling the delicious cocktails and ogling the even more delicious waiters I added every single piece to my new season wish list.
