5 Minutes With: Girl Meets Dress Founder, Anna Bance

Picture the scene. You’ve got a fabulous party to attend and you want to look your designer clad, dressed to impress best. Do you blow your whole season’s budget on an exquisite evening number you’ll most likely only wear a handful of times or dig out your trusty but ever-so-slightly battered, old LBD instead? Unless you’re very rich or very famous, it’s likely you’ve come up against this conundrum more than once in your lifetime and until not-so-long ago there wasn’t really any good way of getting around it. This was a dilemma Anna Bance knew all too well so in 2009 she decided to come up with a stylish solution and launched Girl Meets Dress. Stocking everything from cute Carven cocktail numbers to floor sweeping Temperley gowns, Girl Meets Dress is a truly ingenious concept that enables fashion fanatics without bottomless bank accounts to rent the dress of their dreams for a fraction of it’s retail price. Or more simply put, to borrow, party and return.

5 Minutes With: Eudon Choi

I think it’s safe to say that Eudon Choi is having a moment. Since scooping up the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award in 2010 Choi has gone from strength to strength with features in virtually every major fash mag under the sun and stockists including Selfridges and Avenue 32 confirming his rising star status. The designer’s first on-schedule show gathered rave reviews last season and he followed it up with an equally stellar collection for SS13. Oh and as it turns out, he’s also utterly lovely to boot.

5 Minutes With… Anna Lou of London

I don’t know about you but personally, I’m more than partial to a bit of kitsch. Actually given the popularity of this interviewee’s quirky cool creations, I think it’s safe to assume that I’m not the only one. Anna’s story sounds like something of a fashion fairy tale. In 2004 she started selling her designs at Portobello Market. Not long after a buyer from Harvey Nichols spotted her work while browsing the stalls and within a couple of months, her designs were being snapped up by top department stores and Anna Lou of London was born. Eight years on, Anna Lou of London is an internationally recognised brand stocked everywhere from Paris to Tokyo while the designer’s achievements and business savvy have earned her a plethora of prestigious industry awards.

5 Minutes With… Nanette Lepore

I always love grilling designers on their inspirations, aspirations and how they come up with the collections we all covet but I have to say, I was particulary excited about this particular interview. As you’ve probably realised by now, I’m a bit of a Nanette Lepore fanatic and her colourful, summery extravaganza was one of my favourite New York Fashion Week moments this season. I’m a firm believer in the idea that fashion should make you happy and Nanette’s deliciously flirty aesthetic never fails to bring a smile to my lips. On top of that, she’s also one hell of a businesswoman who’s weathered all manner of financial and sartorial storms to reach where she is.
