New brand alert! Yes, another one. With so many popping up all over the show it’s often tempting to not to bother checking out the latest launches but I’m very glad I did take the time to investigate Wondaland. Since writing this opening line I’ve learnt that Wondaland is in fact in it’s seventh season… Shows what I know. But enough about me, let’s look at some pretty clothes…
Cute, right? Feminine, wearable and sans bank breaking prices, I applaud. I particularly enjoy how the collection delivers several takes on the same flirty shapes, effortless separates and low key tailoring ranging from cotton trimmed chambray to bold bird print, racy lace and even monochrome. Unsurprising really that Sienna Miller and the Delevigne sisters have both been spotted rocking Wondaland.
But not only are the designs divine, the label’s founder is seriously impressive too. Freshly graduated from Central Saint Martins (where else?!) Alice Kestwick was enticed out to Hong Kong to become Head Designer at Eviso jeans. From there she relocated to Paris to work at Pop Magazine for a year, during which time she also managed to become a buyer for high end vintage emporium, Atelier Mayer. Then she decided to go it alone, moved back to Hong Kong to set up Wondaland and now runs the business from her home in Saigo… Phew! The fact that Alice, at 28, has already had a globetrotting fashion career is amazing and terrifying in equal measure, once you know about her diverse its easy to see how they play into the collections. Pared back Parisian chic meets orient inspired eclecticism, not your average combo but in this case it certainly works.
Wondaland is stocked at Village Bicycle in Westbourne Grove and online here.
