What: H&M Skirt & Bandeau Top, Ostwald Helgason for ALDO Rise clutch (c/o), Whistles blazer, Chloe bracelet, J.Crew necklace (both c/o) & Pollini shoes (c/o)
Where: H&M Studio AW14 show in Paris
Ok, so I admit there’s something undeniably cheesy about calling this Look Du Jour “joie de vivire” but really, what else would be appropriate? I was in Paris, wearing an outfit I was hopefully in love with, and enjoying the first fabulous hours of the fabulous H&M Studio trip. I felt like Carrie freaking Bradshaw. Y’know, minus the broken necklace, bizarre lack of mates and turns-out-to-be-a-bastard Russian artist boyfriend. I have also officially decided that this is going to be the summer I ROCK the bandeau top. Until now, I’ve resisted. This is largely because I wore a lot of lycra bandeau tops during my teenage years, paired with very tiny hot pants, vast amounts of fake tan and not a whole lot else. Regaling tales of the sheer unstylish, nay, offensiveness of my teenage tastes always shocks people who didn’t know me back then. This amuses me briefly until I feel so ashamed of my WAG-tastic past I want to go and hide in the nearest toilet. And before you ask, there will be no pictures of those dark, dark days published on here. Anyway, midriffs have been E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E for several seasons now (including Autumn/Winter, but that’s fashion for you dahling) and having forced myself to give one a whirl, I’ve decided they’re not actually so scary. Provided, of course, you don’t let it all hang out like you’re about to star in a rap video à la moi circa 2008. This is where the high waisted midi skirt comes in. The length keeps things demure and the above the navel waistline hides any bloating while its general ladylike elegance disguises the fact you’re actually wearing a piece of semi nipple covering elastic masquerading as a top. Genius. I maxed up the monochrome factor with my trusty Whistles blazer (plus, it was February and definitely not belly/toe/leg/anything exposing weather) and a clutch from the insanely great capsule collection by Ostwald Helgason for ALDO Rise. As for the Pollini sandals… Can you say “dreamy”? Rest assured, you will be seeing this outfit again. And more crop tops, lots of ‘em.
Will YOU brave the bandeau? And do you have any teenage sartorial horror stories to share? I’d love to hear them…
Love Ella. X
