For some unknown reason it’s taken me a whopping TWENTY ONE years to discover my love for Matthew Williamson! Don’t get me wrong, deep down I always knew he was awesome. After all how can a designer beloved by the likes of Kate Moss and Poppy Delevigne not be? But for some insane reason my aversion to all things boho kept me from realising that Matthew’s eye-popping, exquisitely embellished creations are just my cup of tea. As with everything in life, there’s boho and then there’s boho. What Matthew Williamson does is a hell of a long way from the hippy skirts and tassled boots that have sent shivers down my spine ever since I first clapped eyes on them circa 2008.
While I can justifiably (well, ish) skip Uni altogether during fashion week I don’t really feel I could swing it for press days, especially considering they go on for at least a month. Because of this rather inconvenient fact, I attempted to fit my visit to Matthew Williamson’s divine Mayfair HQ in between a breakfast meeting and a lecture. Suffice to say, I was nearly an hour late for the latter but just look how gorgeous the collection is…
Even if I wasn’t already officially O-V-E-R Winter already, Matthew’s collection certainly swung it. The showroom was bursting with rainbow brights, exquisitely embellished footwear and dance-all-night dresses bedecked in impossibly intricate beading. This may sound foolish considering we’re only just into December but boy, am I ready for the new season.
