This will definitely be stating the obvious but during fashion week you get the absolute joy of seeing lots and lots of beautiful clothes! Sometimes they’re things you want to rip off the models backs and wear yourself, other times they’re fantastical creations you couldn’t imagine wearing in a million years but simply stare at in awe. Admittedly you do occasionally see a few heinous garms but it’s all a matter of personal taste and for the sartorially obsessed, critiquing a collection can be every bit as riveting (and often results in a more interesting review) than simply slobbering over what you want/need/HAVE to be wearing next season. However we all know that fashion month isn’t just about the clothes; it’s about the parties people! Whatever anyone says, I maintain indulging in the after dark aspect of the biannual fash fest is important, if only for the memories or lack thereof. New York seems to agree with me on this, at least judging by the amount of FAB-U-LOUS do’s going on each and every evening. In case you were wondering why I’ve been so appallingly late with my show diaries (sorry, I promise I’ll be better next season!) then read on…
Jessica Alba, Phillip Lim & Solange Knowles at the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Launch party
If Phillip Lim’s involved, you know I’m going to be there (stalker alert) but add champagne, fun fashion friends and music and keeping me from attending would take far more than a restraining order. Kicking of NYFW SS14 was the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target launch. Held downtown a mere ten minute high heeled trot from my apartment, this was the place to be on night one. By the time I arrived, a mere 3 minutes after the official start, there was a queue halfway to the Hudson. Once inside I witnessed the rather amusing spectacle of ordinarily composed fashion week attendees fighting tooth and nail (literally) over bank balance friendly yet still really quite lovely versions of Lim’s designs. I will be eternally angry with myself for getting too carried away larking about with Sharoni et al and leaving empty handed but I did have a good night so all was not lost. One particularly amusing moment has to be when I was chatting to Phillip (not entirely sure he had the foggiest who I was or, thankfully, remembered the “marry me” incident from his last party) when I turned around to find Maria Sharapova and Jessica Alba waiting to talk to the man of the moment. Solange Knowles was there too looking trés hot. The night did not end there as we all, ok me, Serena and Sharoni, later decamped to the Nicholas K after party at Pravda… You may remember how day 3 begun.
New York at night recreated in Spring Studios, obviously we ALL posed against it… Some of us more than once (image c/o Dejrit)

Unsurprisingly, I took night number two off, I’m only human after all. But night three more than made up for the comparative boredom of an evening spent answering emails. My ever fabulous friend and New York PR extraordinaire, Sharoni had organised a Parisian Ball on Governors Island… I know! For those unfamiliar with Governors Island (I was until this event so don’t worry), it’s basically a ten minute ferry from Manhattan and both one of the creepiest and coolest places I’ve ever been. We arrived after darkness had fallen and the whole place had been transformed into a vintage funfair filled with beautiful people including Dree Hemingway and Chloe Norgaard. I went on every single ride at least thrice, got candy floss stuck to my Tibi two piece and we danced the night away under the stars.
Hello funfair rides!

And this… Twice
Cheeky body painting…
And a whole lotta dancing!
On night 4 I managed to do the unmanageable and attend two really excellent parties without getting home at stupid o’clock! First up was the Loewe x Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons capsule collection launch at Jeffrey in the West Village (could this get cooler?) hosted by Derek Blasberg and Lily Kwong (answer: yes). Unsurprisingly, there was a high concentration of celebs and important fashion faces in attendance ranging from Nicky Hilton, Miroslava Duma and Leigh Lezark to Bryan Boy, Chiara Ferragni and Hamish Bowles. Serena, Sharoni, Haya and I spent a thoroughly enjoyable hour ogling the collection and just about everything else in the store before decamping to the Jane Hotel for a quick bite before the Public School NYC after party at Bar Nana. Tucked up in bed by 11, perfecto.

Meeeeeeee! Still unconvinced about “shoulder robing” but I gave it a shot

The following evening was rather less sensible, but given that the occasion was none other than the big, bad DKNY 25th Birthday Bash I don’t think I can be blamed for, as my Dad would say, “pressing the fun button”. Fun it most certainly was, and then some. Held in a gigantic Wall Street space that looked like an official government building as you pulled up and some sort of crazy rave venue once inside, this was a definite New York Fashion Week highlight in my book. The guest list was strictly A List and included actors (Hailee Steinfeld, Emmy Rossum, Jared Leto) supermodels (Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Chanel Iman, Chrissie Teigan) musicians (Natalia Kills, Antony Kiedis, John Legend) and celebutantes (Chelsea Leyland, Alexandra Richards) galore. We munched on Baked by Melissa cupcakes, drank Belvedere vodka cocktails and danced to live performances from Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea and A$AP Rocky. At the end of the night Karlie, Emmy, Iggy, Rita et al joined Donna Karen hersel on stage to cut a giant taxi shaped cake which they then proceeded to eat with their hands… All in all, it was awesome.

Taxi cake, TAXI CAKE!!
So as you can probably see, I had a very good time in New York indeed! I would say “I came, I saw, I conquered” but that would be a lie; those wild yanks totally out partied me. Fear not, I managed to get back in my gladrags in time for London Fashion Week and those posts will be hitting the blog as of tomorrow.
Love Ella. X
