I know I open practically every collaboration, shoot or event post with the line “I’m so excited to tell you about such and such project” so won’t do that this time BUT you can be damn sure it doesn’t mean I’m not. This September marks the start of a truly fantastic partnership between the British Fashion Council and the New West End Company aimed at cementing London’s status at a style capital on par with Paris and the rest. But this isn’t just about supporting our homegrown catwalk talent on the fashion week runways and international red carpets. No, this initiative goes further than that. It’s about our very own Oxford Street and every fashion fanatic in England is invited to get in on the action. Loyal though I am to London Fashion Week, one thing I’ve always thought was great whenever I go to the New York shows is how the sartorial celebrations reach further than Lincoln Center or MILK Studios. Starbucks baristas wish you a “Happy Fashion Week”, young girls and old women get pampered at open-to-all beauty events, anyone who loves clothes can and does get involved in the excitement of it all. Personally, I think that’s how it should be so I’m beyond thrilled to tell you that as of next that same citywide, style-and-champagne induced joie de vivre will be hitting my hometown thanks to the first ever Oxford Street Fashion Week and I’ve joined forces with Gap to help make it as awesome as possible.
Coinciding with LFW and involving many of the same designers, editors, stylists and bloggers, Oxford Street Fashion Week will see our high street faves putting on a myriad of in-store experiences to which you are of course all invited. There will be industry talks, workshops, gigs, styling sessions and showcases with everyone from Matthew Williamson and Alice Temperley to Natalie Massenet to your’s truly doing something. On the subject of, well, me and what I’ll be contributing to the 3 day fashionanza, I’m going to be teaming up with Gap to host an afternoon of styling, shopping and general celebration at their flagship store on, you’ve guessed it, Oxford Street.
From 3 to 5pm on Sunday the 15th of September I’ll be hanging out in a specially designed styld.by lounge and would LOVE any of you as fancy it to come and join me for a dressing up session. The new styld.by UK collection will have literally just arrived (I had a sneak peek, it’s awesome) so we’ll have our pick of the looks to play with and, if the mood takes you, there will be a photographer poised to get snapping.
Gap AW13 UK collection
I would be so, so thrilled if any of you wanted to come along, it should be a great afternoon and the perfect way to celebrate the week long fash fest that’s about to take over London! If you can’t make it, never fear, Gap has a ton of other stuff going on over the weekend. On Friday morning fashion illustrator extraordinaire Cassandra Montoriol will be hosting a bloggers breakfast where you can see some of the biggest names in the business getting sketched in the AW13 collection (9 – 11.30am). On Saturday Cassandra will be back from midday to 6pm, this time to illustrate everyone and from 4 to 5pm there will be a trend talk by Glamour Magazine’s Executive Fashion and Beauty Director, Julia Yule… not bad eh? Obviously I’d still totally rather you came to see me on Sunday but hey, I’ll be a good sport and give options.
Love Ella. X
