Weekly Wish List, New York Edition

August is just around the corner and we all know what that means… Fashion month is now just a few short weeks away! For a lot of industry folk, ‘fashion week’ can be something of a dirty word thanks to the sheer amount of stress it brings with it. Personally, I don’t think I’m ever going to get over the joy of being able to attend shows, parties and be a part of all the madness in between. Who knows, maybe in ten years time I’ll be bemoaning the sleep deprivation, high-heel induces injuries and champagne-induced hangovers that are as much a part of fashion week as the collections themselves but given how excited I feel just writing that, I doubt it. With just over a month to go, it’s high time to start planning our wardrobes. So to help, well, me along the way and generally get us all in the mood for four weeks of sartorial celebration I’ve decided to focus my next few wish lists on each of the four respective fashion cities. First up, New York…

Alberta Ferretti X Cutler and Gross Eyewear

Few things make me happier than an ingenious fashion collaboration. When two brands come together to produce something so covetable you’re willing to extend your overdraft/give up smoking/forfeit your smartphone to get your hands on it… well, that’s just magical. When Italian design doyenne, Alberta Ferretti joined forces with eyewear extraordinaire Cutler and Gross, the results were always going to be pretty spectacular and as I discovered this week, both brands truly outdid themselves.

Alberta Ferretti X Cutler and Gross

This match made in fashion heaven resulted in seven super chic styles which fused the signature contemporary femininity of Alberta Ferretti with Cutler and Gross’s expert eyewear craftsmanship. Elegant, playful and timelessly chic… there’s no doubt about it, this latest collab is a good’un.

Karl Lagerfeld X Selfridges Rooftop Party

Much as I’d love to claim that I’m one of those people who just doesn’t get star struck, that would be a complete and utter lie. Whenever I meet someone who’s work/life/style I’ve long since admired, I inevitably find myself knock kneed, sweaty palmed and unable to think of anything remotely intelligent to say. So as you can imagine, the prospect of meeting the one and only Karl Lagerfeld left me giddy with excitement and nerves for days. The white haired, one gloved wonder is undoubtedly one of the most revered figues in the industry, as proved by the fact that London’s fashion elite flocked to Selfridges rooftop terrace in his honour last night… And happily waited 2 hours for Karl to arrive.

Karl Lagerfeld X Selfridges

After battling our way up Bond Street in the swealtering heat (glamourous, non?) we arrived at Selfridges to be ushered through the crowds into a cordened off lift which took us up to the rooftop terrace which has been given a complete Karl-over. Walls, boards, seats, Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic image was plastered on everything as far as the eye could see. I particularly loved the black and white (natch) Karl flags flying majestically from the chimneys. The champagne was flowing, caviar and tasty lobster bites being proffered around by uniformed waiters and as for my fellow guests… Think Daphne Guinness, Rosario Dawson, Hilary Alexander, Suzy Menkes, Poppy Delevigne, Edie Campbell and just about every magazine editor in town. Several hours and countless glasses of champagne later, we were informed that Karl had entered the building and the sheer excitement among a group of such innately cool and influential fashion insiders was amazing to see. As you’ve probably gathered, this was party was pretty spectacular and not an evening I’ll forget anytime soon. A couple of snaps of well dressed guests just wouldn’t do it justice so I thought I’d share this behind-the-scenes video with you instead, enjoy!

Look Du Jour: Gilded

Gilded

What: Dress: Alice by Temperley, Sandals: Topshop, Necklace: Anne Bowes Jewellery.

Where: Karl Lagerfeld Party at Selfridges.

If ever there were an occasion that required a truly fabulous outfit, a soiree with Karl Lagerfeld on Selfridges rooftop terrace is definitely it. After recovering from the initital over excitement at receiving an invitation to this particular event, I naturally went straight into outfit panic mode. I mean, much as I love my extensive collection of party frocks and chiffon blouses, when you’re partying with editors and A listers a well-worn topshop number doesn’t quite cut it. Thanks to my spendaholic ways and limited budget, I can’t afford to pick up a catwalk fresh designer number for every fash bash I attend so I borrowed this beautiful gilded print cocktail dress from Temperley’s dreamy sample closet. As you might remember my post a few weeks ago, I’m criminally obsessed with Temperley’s Pre Fall 2012 collection and this particular look has got to be one of the best. Sadly I’ll have to return it to it’s rightful owners pretty soon but for now it’s taking pride of place in my bedroom and frankly, I’m enjoying just looking at it!
