5 Minutes With… LeiVanKash

Back when I was working as assistant to stylist, Iman Pasha, I used to find some of the events we organised pretty terrifying. After all, how could a naive teenager not be intimidated by meeting the likes of Erdem, Diane Von Furstenberg’s right hand man, Yvan Mispelaere and the legendary Mrs Joan Burstein?! I remember how Iman’s impossibly glamourous friend, Leila Kashanipour, always took the time to be incredibly nice to me, despite the fact I was shaking like a leaf, looking like an idiot and no doubt getting pretty much everything wrong. Well, I soon learned that besides being lovely and in posession of an unbelievably fabulous wardrobe, Leila was also an incredible jewellery designer. Last year she launched her own brand, LeiVanKash, which has quickly become a favourite with celebs, style icons and industry insiders.

I caught up with Leila to talk about the realities running one of London’s hottest new jewellery labels and what the future holds for LeiVanKash…

Look Du Jour: Hearts n’ Swirls

Hearts n' Swirls

What: Hearts Blouse, Shorts & Shoes: Hoss Intropia, Bag: Jaeger London.

Where: Evening with Caroline Issa & Yasmin Sewell at The Industry.

Anyone who saw my film debut on Spanish blogzine, Fashion Salade a few months back will recognise this little hearts n’ swirls covered number. Hoss Intropia were kind enough to let me keep the outfit – probably due to the fact I practically teared up at the idea of returning to London without it – and I’ve been waiting for a suitable occasion and, more importantly, suitable weather conditions to wear it ever since. As my fellow Brits will know, last Wednesday was the hottest day of the year, but instead of lazing in a shady park or poolside I was headed into the sweaty heart of Central London and decided this little number – which, minus the scalloped edges and ruffles is really just a tank top and short shorts – was just the ticket. Plus, I was off to an evening with the ever-elegant Caroline Issa and Yasmin Sewell at fashion business club, The Industry, so heatwave or no heatwave, I needed to look reasonably slick.

Weekly Wish List, New York Edition

August is just around the corner and we all know what that means… Fashion month is now just a few short weeks away! For a lot of industry folk, ‘fashion week’ can be something of a dirty word thanks to the sheer amount of stress it brings with it. Personally, I don’t think I’m ever going to get over the joy of being able to attend shows, parties and be a part of all the madness in between. Who knows, maybe in ten years time I’ll be bemoaning the sleep deprivation, high-heel induces injuries and champagne-induced hangovers that are as much a part of fashion week as the collections themselves but given how excited I feel just writing that, I doubt it. With just over a month to go, it’s high time to start planning our wardrobes. So to help, well, me along the way and generally get us all in the mood for four weeks of sartorial celebration I’ve decided to focus my next few wish lists on each of the four respective fashion cities. First up, New York…

Alberta Ferretti X Cutler and Gross Eyewear

Few things make me happier than an ingenious fashion collaboration. When two brands come together to produce something so covetable you’re willing to extend your overdraft/give up smoking/forfeit your smartphone to get your hands on it… well, that’s just magical. When Italian design doyenne, Alberta Ferretti joined forces with eyewear extraordinaire Cutler and Gross, the results were always going to be pretty spectacular and as I discovered this week, both brands truly outdid themselves.

Alberta Ferretti X Cutler and Gross

This match made in fashion heaven resulted in seven super chic styles which fused the signature contemporary femininity of Alberta Ferretti with Cutler and Gross’s expert eyewear craftsmanship. Elegant, playful and timelessly chic… there’s no doubt about it, this latest collab is a good’un.
