When visiting the Karla Otto showroom you know you’re going to be confronted with a selection of garments so gorgeous it almost hurts to look at them – think Celine, Valentino, Rochas and Vionnet to name but a few – but much to my surprise, it wasn’t these brands which left me speechless. No, it was something, or more specifically a collection of somethings, a whole lot smaller. It’s a well know fact that the French do pretty much everything more stylishly than pretty much everyone else and this extends to clothing their offspring, as proved by Parisian childrenswear brand Bonpoint. Think perfect peacoats, luxe knitwear and chic tailoring galore… Then shrink it. After establishing that (sob) there was no way in hell I could squeeze myself into them, the penny finally dropped; what could possibly be more fun than having your very own munchkin to dress up in such adorable togs?
But it’s not just Bonpoint who are threatening to kickstart my biological clock. It turns out that New York brand Milly also are offer up cuter-than-cute childsize versions of their trademark girlish ensembles so yummy mummys can have their very own fashion mini-me.
