I’m not entirely sure why I continue to write my own trend posts. The catwalk reports on Style.com and Vogue.co.uk are obviously far superior. Still there’s something I just enjoy so much about flicking through the season’s hottest catwalk looks, picking my favourites and imagining how I’ll recreate them, minus the catwalk budget. So far I’ve relished retro chic, gushed over girlish prettiness, fawned over flamboyant florals and sussed out sports luxe. Now it’s time to turn my attentions to one of SS12′s more surprising trends, the life aquatic. From starfish and seahorses adorning Versace’s micro dresses to glimmering goddesses at Givenchy, the Spring collections were packed with deep sea references. In a palette of cool blues, deep greens and shimmering silvers the oceanic inspired looks hit the perfect note between feminine charm and sleek modernity. In terms of sheer wow factor, Alexander McQueen and Chanel were in stiff competition for the crown with Sarah Burton’s exquisite coral creations only being topped only by Florence Welch serenading Karl Lagerfeld from inside a giant clamshell.
