Where: SKATE Launch Party, Somerset House.
Apologies for the slightly misleading post title. As you’ve probably gathered, I haven’t actually been reliving my tragic teenage Avril Levigne faze (yes I had one) this week but given that I donned this little ensemble for the SKATE launch party at Somerset House I couldn’t resist! There are few things in life I enjoy more than ice skating at Somerset House and every year I go at least ten times, despite the fact they’re yet to issue season tickets or start operating a (much needed) loyalty card system. Add mulled wine, music and famous faces galore into the mix and you’ve got a recipe for success… Or possibly a broken leg.

Why is it that late nights inevitably seem to happen before early starts? Or at least, I find that to be the case. Despite my mid afternoon kick offs on Sunday and Monday, I refrained from hitting the town, choosing to spend both evenings show going, blogging and drinking Pinot Grigio from the comfort of the sofa. Well that all went out the window come Monday but when there’s as fabulous a party as the W Magazine bash on the cards, frankly it would be a CRIME to stay home. Suffice to say, I felt a whole lot less smug and sensible the next morning.

Regardless of my fuzzy head and aching feet, nothing was going to stop me attending the J.Crew presentation. Judging by the high heeled hoards that poured into the Studio at Lincoln Centre, I was the only person who felt this way. Indeed, such an impressive turnout before 9.30am on day 6 of New York Fashion Week was a true testament to the sartorial clout of a brand once associated with soccer moms and suburban sports casual. Under the expert direction of Jenna Lyons, J.Crew has – as I’m sure you know – become one of the most in demand labels around. Industry big hitters including Hamish Bowles, Caroline Issa and Natalie Massinet were all in attendance and of course, Lyons’ latest collection were a treat to behold.
While the 2012 Olympics were obviously pretty big news, they’re not the only exciting thing that’s happened during the past month. In fact, I’d argue that for many of us, the arrival of the new season collections are almost as thrilling. Just as I began psyching up for Summer in February, I’m now thoroughly in the mood for autumn. After all, there are only so many pastels a girl can wear before she starts longing for something a bit less saccharine. Having fondled most of the AW12 collections at press days back in April I can vouch that it’s going to be an excellent season. But excited though I am to dive into the autumnal delights on offer, I’m not ready to think about winter woolies just yet so instead I thought I’d take a look at the handbags on offer instead. You can wear ‘em now with bare legs and ballet flats or in a few months time with boots and a chunky knit… Further proving my theory that if there’s an item really worth investing in, a beautiful bag is surely it.

Here we have yet another early Spring purchase that had yet to have made it out of my wardrobe until now! I snapped up this little green number from Boutique by Jaeger waaay back in April and finally took it for it’s first outing it last Sunday. My mum was in town so we spent the day shopping in Westbourne Grove and lounging in Hyde Park before getting suitably tipsy over large amounts of seafood and Pinot Grigio at Carluccios that evening. Oh and let’s not forget watching the EPIC three hour Brit-a-thon that was the Olympic Closing ceremony. The Spice Girls, Take That and Prince Harry all on one screen?! It was frankly almost more than I could handle.
