Whistles

All that glitters…

When it comes to Christmas, people largely fall into two catagories. The first book up the ice rink at Somerset House months in advance, count down the days until Starbucks red cups hit stores (guilty) and spend their days at the office dreaming of mulled wine and open fires. The second avoid Oxford Circus until well after New Year, shudder at the merest hint of a carol and spend their days at the office dreaming about fleeing to a remote tropical island, where no one’s ever heard of a mince pie. But whichever camp you fall into, you just can’t deny that nothing perks up those darkening December afternoons like a large dose of festive sparkle. This is a sentiment shared by high end designers and high street stores alike who have pulled out all the stops this season to bring us collections more bedazzled that the entire cast of TOWIE put together. From Miu Miu’s cult glitter boots to Stella McCartney’s sporty metallic dresses, head-to-toe bling has never looked so chic. It’s high time to try high shine and whatever your budget, body type or level of bravery, I guarantee there’s a glittery something out there for you.

Look Du Jour: Sweethearts

Tonight I was off to a rather special event hosted by online fash mag, My Daily. The soiree was held at super swanky Soho champagne bar, Kettners so I decided to go for cocktail chic in this ultra-girly ensemble. I will be bringing you all the goss from the fabulous evening very soon but for now you’ll have to make do with what I wore, namely my fave sweetheart print skirt from Whistles.

Look Du Jour: Party Shorts

What with all the fabulous window displays and twinkling lights (except for the hideous Arthur Christmas ones on Regents Street which are just plain offensive) brightening up the city, London is rather magical this time of year. But lovely though the festive period may be, it brings with it two major wardrobe dilemmas: 1) how to stay warm without resembling the michelin man, a look even Alexa would fail to pull off, and 2) how to look stylish at all those pre-Christmas soirees without spending your entire years’ salary on cocktail dresses. Well I certainly don’t have an answer to the first of these conundrums and to be honest, flu is a small price to pay for chicness. But I’m happy to announce that a sneaky between, ok instead of, lecture trip to Topshop last week led me to discover a solution to the party dress problem that plagues us all… Shorts!

Instead of spending a sizeable amount of money on a dress that will probably only get worn once this season (it doesn’t do to be snapped in the same dress at two different events after all) pick up two or three pairs of shorts that can then be combined with a variety of tops for multiple day and night occasions. These sparkly stunners are one of the pairs I snapped up last week. Perfect with flat boots and a chunky knit for casual daywear or sky scraper heels and an elegant blouse when the sun goes down… Genuis, non?

Look Du Jour: Feelin’ Tweedy

Towards the end of last week I came down with a truly hideous cold. This was most likely due to going out wearing the world’s smallest velvet shorts on Thursday night but I decided to blame my illness on our enormous college workload… Everyone knows stress can really take a toll on you immune system.

After spending most of Saturday tucked up in bed I found myself with a severe case of cabin fever. Having picked up this adorable tweedy coat at (you guessed it) Whistles last week I couldn’t resist the temptation to take it for it’s first outing so I headed to the park with my boyfriend for an autumnal stroll. By the time we got home I felt a fair bit worse but I think you’ll agree, it was worth it. Now I’m a firm believer in milking the slightest cold for all it’s worth so spent the of the weekend making my long-suffering boyfriend and flatmate pander to my every whim. Tea, hot water bottles, paracetemol and December Vogue all delivered to my bed… maybe being ill isn’t so bad after all;)

Look Du Jour: Cocktail Luxe

There are few things in life I enjoy more than a cocktail party. Spending the evenings glammed up and sipping champagne I mean, what’s not to love? More importantly, the endless pre-Christmas soirees taking place at this time of year also provide the ultimate excuse to hit the shops in search of some deliciously impractical partywear.

With no pesky lectures to attend decided to sieze the golden window of shopping opportunity (shopportunity?) provided by “reading week” and so spent Tuesday morning running up and down Regents Street on a slightly crazed spending frenzy. You know those losers queueing outside Topshop at 8.45am waiting for the doors to open? Well, that was me. And might I just add that the early start was oh-so-worth it as the usually hellish Oxford Circus flagship was blissfully empty leaving me to browse in peace. I’m obsessed with velvet at the moment so the second I saw these strokeable shorts I knew they’d be coming home with me. After that it was on to my beloved Whistles where I treated myself to this ultra extravagant blouse. My student loan is now officially non-exsistant but a Peter Pan collar and oodles of bling, how could anyone possibly resist?
