Whether it’s a conceptual McQueen dream in which the models face is concealed behind a sculptural head piece or a preppy pic of ‘The Hilfigers’, AKA a bevvy of fresh faced, professional posers, high end ad campaigns are nearly always pretty mesmerizing. Indeed, for a fashion fanatic like myself there are few things more inspiring than exquisite shots of beautiful models bedecked in equally beautiful designer creations. But one of those rare things has to be when a major fashion brand forsakes their usual cast of ‘supers’ in favour of someone a little more normal. Ok, so ‘normal’ might not be exactly the right word for the non-model stars of recent Tibi campaigns who have included Wonderland Magazine Fashion Editor and street style legend, Julia Sarr-Jamois.
Given Julia’s enviable career and stellar fash credentials, Tibi designer Amy Smilovic had set the bar pretty high. But personally, I think she nailed it, casting Primrose Hill based Filmmaker, Artist and Illustrator, Quentin Jones as the face of her AW12 campaign. ‘Style with substance’ was what Amy was after and Quentin’s certainly got that in spades. The Cambridge Philosophy Graduate is fast making a name for herself thanks to the unique fashion stories she creates through digital animation. Most recently Quentin created a quirky video series for Chanel and her work has been featured on Vogue.com, Nylon Magazine and Nowness.com… Oh, and she’s really, really pretty.
